What Do You Think?

Report From PIA – February 4

Today at the New England Grows event I attended a Garden Writers of America regional meeting. This group, the GWA, is poorly named as the members are not only writers, but photographers, speakers and other garden communicators. That said, the Northeast Regional meeting was helpful to most attendees I think.

Our speaker was Richard Banfield of Fresh Tilled Soil, and by the end of the event we were all smitten with him. He spoke about how we could improve our marketing and general way of doing business in this time when the old models are crumbling and it’s all happening on-line. I came away with several action items in my notes, and one of them had to do with polling blog readers about what they want to see in future posts.

I am dedicated to writing both about gardening and how the landscape connects with the rest of our lives. But I’m also open to hearing if you want something else. Do the readers of this blog need more direct gardening information, plant talk or other instruction and tips? Am I too philosophical or personal here?

Let me know what you think, in comments, by email or through facebook.

Personally I love your little tidbits everyday, but also as a “want to be gardener” would love some of your wisdom too! How about doing a weekly plant tutorial? What it is, varieties, where it likes to grow, how to care for it – some of your favorites perhaps. Of course I would lead you into tropicals too….:0)

I think it’s just fine the way it is. It’s all about Balance – in the garden as in life in general, isn’t it?

    CL Fornari:

Thanks, Rhian! I’ve had a couple of emails recently from people who were mystified about a particular plant, or aspect of gardening, so I thought I’d address those in future posts. I like the idea of a weekly spotlight on a particular plant… for awhile I was posting the weekly “I Love This Plant/I Hate This Plant” segment from GardenLine, but I kind of got away from that when I started the Report From Poison Ivy Acres – maybe it’s time to bring that back.

HI C.L.: A little cool here in Florida. Did get a high speed internet connection working this trip. Now it almost time to come back to NH. As for this post and your question, I agree with Suz it’s fine the way it is. Just keep doing it the way you have been. You can post just about anything you want with the present format.

    Enjoy Your Day,
    John

P.S. What was Dan’s comment when he first was told about the stove and Turkey?

Suz, absolutely – it’s all about balance. Thanks for the vote of confidence! And thanks to you too, John, for your continual support here. Just be glad you’re not in the DC area today… sounds like we’ll miss most of the snow, and I’m happy about that.

Dan’s first comment wasn’t a comment – he laughed. I admit that it’s pretty improbably, and a Stove Killing Turkey is pretty funny.

And by the way….the stove top is still not fixed! It’s the old “the part is still on backorder” story.

I read your blog daily and I think it is great. I enjoy your viewpoint and vision on gardening and life. This is what makes your blog unique and different from all the rest. Too many other gardening blogs have “direct gardening information, plant talk or other instruction and tips”. It is good to take advice with a grain of salt but in the end, you should remain true to your own unique vision.

    Lorraine,
Thanks for replying – I’ve been hearing the same from many others via facebook and email, and I appreciate that you find something here that isn’t on other blogs. I’ll keep at it!
