Report From An Opinionated Gardener – March 12

We make our way toward spring. Taking pleasure in one small Helleborus orientalis or the Schlumbergera truncata (Thanksgiving cactus) that’s in full bloom again.  Rejoicing in a day that is over 40 degrees. Being grateful that every day above freezing thaws the soil just a bit more, so it might be possible, eventually, to pull out that chickweed that’s been growing under the snow.

Step by step, inch by inch we creep into spring.

The sun rises earlier (at least before we spring forward tonight) and lasts later, so indoor plants come into bloom again.

Outdoors the Lenten Roses continue to open and even look perky, despite the cold nights.
