Garden Reports and Rejoicing – November 10

I have a friend who’s a sucker for fall color and at this time of year I know why. It’s dark by five o’clock, and the temperatures are dropping, so we need every opportunity to celebrate the outdoors that we can find. The colorful foliage on deciduous plants and the healthy, summer-plumped evergreens give us much needed reasons to rejoice.

Winter conditions will take their toll on the plants and people soon enough, but it’s important not to lose what we have now in anticipation of what’s to come. Fall color calls us to applaud the present moment.

The American Hollies are beautiful and berried, and the witch hazel a brilliant gold. I love how this part of the garden looks in the fall.

The paths through the woods are littered with color resembling confetti left after the party or parade is over.
