I arrived at the Garden Writer’s Association annual meeting site yesterday. We’re in Tucson, AZ, and once again I’m pleased that this meeting moves to a new location every year. It’s always interesting to see how people garden in climates that are different from ours because it stimulates our thinking and imagination. In seeing how the lack of rain dictates what plants are used and how these gardens are designed, we once again notice how circumstances that are restrictive actually offer opportunities for great creativity and achievement.
Seeing new challenges, different conditions, and unfamiliar plants stimulate our thinking and inquisitiveness. Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it keeps people alive and productive.
Caesalpinia pulcherrima - it clearly thrives in hot, dry places. The flowers and foliage are beautiful and it makes all plant people wonder "Could I germinate those seeds? Would this plant grow in a container that comes in and out?"
