Do you want a small maple tree that is extremely stylish in the spring and breathtakingly colorful in the fall? Meet Acer japonicum ‘Aconitifolium’ – the thread-leaf full moon maple. This tree grows only 8 to 10 feet tall and wide, making it the perfect plant for those small places where you want a tree, but don’t really have room for a tree. Sometimes A.j. ‘Aconitifulium’ can be found as a multi-stemmed large shrub, and either form is beautiful.
Plant this maple in part shade, if possible placing the tree where it will be illuminated by the morning or evening sun. When in bloom in the spring the rising or setting sun will light up the red flowers making them more showy from a distance than usual. Whether lit by the sun or not, the blossoming plant is beautiful when viewed close up.
This Japanese maple is unsurpassed when it comes to fall foliage color. I love this plant!
