The plant I’m loving in my garden this week is Spiraea thunbergii ‘Ogon’ – wonderful small shrub that has long lasting fall color. But it’s not just fall color that makes this a great plant. ‘Ogon’, also known by the unfortunate name of “Mello Yellow”, has very fine textured foliage and soft, twiggy growth. In spring there are tiny white flowers along the stems that give way to lime-yellow foliage that then turns yellow in the summer.

Spirea ‘Ogon’ grows about five feet high and wide so it’s good for small gardens or as a companion for perennials. Hardy in zones 4 to 8 – I love this plant!
