Report From An Opinionated Gardener – September 14
Today I visited a charming garden and met the even more charming gardener, Tonni Michelsen. We spent an hour on her deck, talking about her life and the garden where she’s been growing plants since 1972.
At one point in our conversation she said, “I’m not big on plant names…people ask me ‘What’s that?’ and “What’s this?’ and I don’t know. If I kept all of the names in my head I’d have to be in my brain all the time, but I want to be in my spirit in the garden.”
There is a lot to be said for her in-the-moment approach. Gardens are great places for cultivating spirit.
