Report From An Opinionated Gardener – September 15
When a friend came to Poison Ivy Acres for the first time, he immediately asked, “Where do you have your morning coffee?” He was thinking about the garden, not the kitchen.
This morning I sipped my coffee looking at the fountain grass and Japanese anemones on the side of the rain garden. Other mornings might find me walking down to the lake, or sitting on the deck.
Starting the day outdoors is such a blessing, and I’m aware that these early fall days are to be especially savored.
It’s tempting to read the newspaper, listen to Morning Edition, or page through the New Yorker while having breakfast, but when it comes to beginning the day in a way that calmly draws me into the world, give me the garden every time.
