Report From An Opinionated Gardener – September 23

At this time of year the garden is still in full flower, but the nights are cooler and there is the sense that it’s all slowing down. Although I was able to find a few squash and some broccoli for dinner, and there are still tomatoes to harvest, the overwhelming abundance of last month is gone. Every flower, fruit and vegetable is becoming more precious.

Knowing that we’re close to the end of the growing season makes it all so much more precious. I am tempted to just sit and watch the garden, absorbing how filled with life it currently is. The phrase “Taking it all to heart” runs through my mind because that’s what I want to do: absorb this beauty, love this miraculous garden, and bring it to my spirit and soul.
