Report From An Opinionated Gardener – October 18

Everything is connected to everything else. Yes, I’m back to this simple truth. From Joyce’s comment on my post of 10-15 to my current visit to help my mother in Wisconsin, I’m once again struck with how we plant with heart, in all aspects of our lives.

When we talk about something coming “from the heart,” we refer to things arising from the best, most authentic part of ourselves. There is a weaving of hope, faith, and love in such cultivations.

In times when we’re pushed to plant as best we can, when loved ones are ill or in trouble, or when we see suffering that we’re powerless to heal, we come back to doing what we can, when we can. We pray, plant bulbs, give hugs, and show up with help and with heart.

Those few daffodil bulbs that we plant in the fall with hope and with heart lift our spirits and restore our faith in life's cycle of renewal come spring.
