Garden Reports and Rejoicing – November 21 – In the Spirit of Thanksgiving Week

You probably noticed my admiring looks all summer, but now that your leaves hang like brown rags I want you to know that you still have my appreciation. Thanks for reminding me to never say never. You’ve grown for two years in my Cape Cod garden, tolerating a climate that isn’t completely to your liking.

Most gardeners like a challenge, and growing a tropical plant on the Cape is just that. I have to admit that last spring when I removed the layer of protective mulch I was apprehensive that you’d still be alive. Thanks for coming back against all odds.

See you next May…I hope!

Musa basjoo, the hardy banana, in my garden. After this photograph was taken I piled two bales of salt marsh hay around these stems. Sleep tight!
