Garden Reports and Rejoicing – June 21
An essential part of the garden, to my way of thinking, is providing for the birds. Bird houses, feeders and sources of water, and the birds that these attract, are as important to me as the plants.
Helen's Bobby made this little house. I stuck it in the lakeside perennial garden one evening just to see how it would look, and by 5 AM the next morning a house wren had moved in. The male sat on top of the house singing and I thought that he was celebrating and saying "Look what a fantastic house I found, and in such a beautiful neighborhood!" So of course we left the house there, and this year placed it in the same location. I don't know if the same pair of wrens are back, but once again the house was occupied within 24 hours.
