Report From An Opinionated Gardener – November 11
It’s hard for me to imagine life without a dog. Yes, there might be a time when we can’t have a canine in our lives, but for now, The Dog and The Garden go together.
The Dog enjoys the outdoors, thoroughly and completely, without reservations. We humans say that it’s too cool, or annoyingly windy, or what a shame that the leaves have all fallen and the annuals have frosted. The Dog is just relishing being able to run around outside right now, just as things are.
We gardeners see the work we have yet to do, or those tasks we didn’t do earlier. The Dog sees opportunities for fun in this stick and that blowing leaf. If I don’t want to play a rousing game of “Get that dog!” then he’s happy to sniff the area, discovering who and what has recently passed through, or which treasures have been previously ignored.
How would we experience our landscapes of we spent a little time each day going through our gardens as if we were The Dog?
