Report From An Opinionated Gardener – August 3

I’m away from Poison Ivy Acres tonight but wanted to share with you all a photo I took at Heritage Museums and Gardens yesterday. This lovely shade area was planted with a variety of foliage colors and textures, with a few Diamond Frost Euphorbia for some flower power.

Many in my area are experiencing a melt-down of Impatiens caused by a perfect storm of downy mildew and Rhizoctonia fungus. Suddenly, many shade gardens are bare. Let this photo be a reminder that we’re not totally reliant on Impatiens for color.

A beautiful shade planting and not an impatiens in sight.
